New Cooking Shows | Food Network Turns Up The Heat With New Shows

1 February, 2010

If you’re anything at all like me, then you love the new lineup of nighttime shows on DIRECTV. Satellite television viewers have demanded more and more sophisticated programming, particularly into, and out of primetime. Food Network heeded the call and answered with a great lineup of after-hour programs that are fun, savvy, hip, and definitely hot, hot, hot!

The current nighttime lineup offers up a few competition-style shows including Worst Cooks in America, Chopped, Iron Chef America, and Throwdown with Bobby Flay. There’s also a great collection of unique content shows including Good Eats, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and Unwrapped. Fans of great television on satellite dish tv will find something, or everything, appealing in this lineup.

A new great competition show is The Worst Cook in America. The premise of the show is to find the worst cooks in America, generally as nominated by friends or family members, divide them into two teams, and let them battle head-to-head, with the worst cook being cut each week. The winner of the competition will win $25,000. The show is hosted by chef team leaders Anne Burrell and Beau MacMillan

Chopped is a lively competition show that pits four up-and-coming chefs against each other in three rounds – Appetizer, Entrée, and Dessert – with the loser of each round getting chopped. The winner of each episode wins $10,000. Ted Allen is the host, and three guest chefs and/or restaurant owners serve as judges on each episode. If you love to watch chefs thinking on their feet, this is the show for you!

Throwdown with Bobby Flay is a very entertaining show, the premise of which Iron Chef Bobby Flay takes on various food experts around the country in an attempt to make their signature dish better. His challenge, by way of a “throwdown” is fun, friendly, and frequently Flay, who is one of the best chefs in America, loses! This is one great and tasty 30 minutes!

The pinnacle of cooking competition shows is Iron Chef America which pits a very seasoned chef against one of six Iron Chefs, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Cat Cora, Jose Garces, Masaharu Morimoto, and Michael Symon. The skill level is through the roof, and only the best challengers can even hope to compete against any of the six. Host Alton Brown keeps this satellite dish tv program fun and fast paced.

Good Eats, hosted by Alton Brown, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, hosted by Guy Fieri, and Unwrapped, hosted by Marc Summers are unique content shows that have a different topic and focus each episode.

Alton Brown brings great repartee and a scientific approach to his show, ultimately instructing home cooks in the ways of making great food at home. The uber hip Guy Fieri travels around the country to bring viewers three stops each week at a diner, drive-in, or dive. His show tends to show great fast food like burgers, dogs, and sandwiches from around the country. Marc Summers brings a great behind-the-scenes look at how commercial foods are made. If you ever wanted to know how anything from donuts to licorice are made, this is the show for you.
